DCHP-Advisory Board

The Cultural Committee has been in existence since 1996, when it was originally created by the Governor of Isleta Pueblo as “The Land Claim Committee.”

This group of tribal elders served as an advisory committee for a series of two land claim projects that took place between 1996 and 2004. They were initially appointed because of their knowledge of tribal history and cultural practices.

Mission: Protect and preserve the ancestral lands, water, air, and all elements of life forces, including all culturally affiliated issues such as Tiwa language, cultural education, and Tiwa life ways concerning the Pueblo of Isleta’s tribal members. The Committee serves as an advisory body to the Pueblo of Isleta as traditional interpreters of land, protection and preservation of environment, language, religious pathways and traditional knowledge.
